Now Open: FY 2021 Grant Opportunity for Marine Debris Research Projects

Posted Tue, 09/15/2020 - 11:00

The NOAA Marine Debris Program is proud to announce our FY 2021 Marine Debris Research notice of funding opportunity.

NOAA will fund research projects that investigate and identify the critical input pathways for marine debris introduction into the coastal zone (shoreline or nearshore), including evaluation of appropriate simultaneous pathways of riverine transport downstream, surface runoff, stormwater discharge, and wind-driven transport, as well as degradation and fragmentation of debris during transport. Projects should be original, hypothesis-driven projects that have not previously been addressed to scientific standards.

The Letter of Intent (LOI) submission period for research projects will extend from September 15 to November 5, 2020. Applicants who submit successful LOIs will be invited to submit a full proposal following the LOI review period.

For more information on this FY 2021 grant opportunity, please visit Grants.gov and the NOAA Marine Debris Program’s website.

I am surprised, your country also has trash problems in your river from the sea.

I am Dr. K. Prabhu, working as a project scientist, Coastal and Marine Ecology Division, Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology, Bhuj-Kachchh, Gujarat. I am interest to work in the field of Marine plastic pollution along west coast of India. I have three years post doctoral experience in Marine microplastic pollution in marine organisms especially marine mussels. I am searching for research grants for marine plastic research at indian coastal regions. In India has high populated country has utilized high plastics among the countries and also poorly waste management. In this connection indian coastal water have been highly polluted by marine plastics and it has impacts marine biodiversity through entanglement, ingestion and accumulation. Above this brief, I am interested work on coastal marine plastics and its impacts on marine biodiversity along west coast of India. I am interested to jointly work in NOAA marine research programme for indian regions.

How can my sons(9th grade and 8th grade)
Join this program?

Thank you for your question! There are lots of ways you and your sons can get involved in reducing marine debris on the How to Help page of our website.

Your son in grade 8 may also be interested in our marine debris art contest, which is now open through December 15 for students in grades K-8. You can find more information on the contest, as well as entry and submission guidelines here.
