Halloween is only a week away! If you don’t already have your costume planned out, there’s still time to make your own. By using materials destined for the trash can, you can create a unique costume and reduce waste at the same time. Take a look around your house and see what can be repurposed for some halloween fun.

  • Billowy plastic bags are wonderful at adding a layer of spooky

  • Cardboard from cereal boxes or packages is marvelous for building the structure of your costume

  • Colorful bottle caps make great accent pieces

  • Have old costumes from years past? You can repaint masks or add new layers to turn that old costume into something new

  • Lids from food cans can become scales or armor

  • Those old clothes hiding in the back of your closet are just waiting to be repurposed into something fabulous

Whatever you decide to be this year for halloween, remember to give a little treat to the ocean and Great Lakes by reducing your waste.
