Now Open: FY 2021 Grant Opportunity for Marine Debris Removal Projects

Posted Tue, 07/14/2020 - 08:53

The NOAA Marine Debris Program is proud to announce our fiscal year (FY) 2021 Marine Debris Removal notice of funding opportunity.

Projects awarded through the removal grant competition will create long-term, quantifiable ecological habitat improvements for NOAA trust resources, with priority consideration for efforts targeting derelict fishing gear, abandoned and derelict vessels, and other medium- and large-scale debris. Projects should also foster public awareness of the effects of marine debris to further the conservation of living marine resource habitats, and contribute to the understanding of marine debris composition, distribution, and impacts.

The Letter of Intent (LOI) submission period for removal projects will extend from July 15 to September 4, 2020. Applicants who submit successful LOIs will be invited to submit a full proposal following the LOI review period.

For more information on this FY 2021 grant opportunity, please visit Grants.gov and the NOAA Marine Debris Program’s website.

Yes, I am very interested in marine debris removal.
I am the daughter of a fisherman of the past on the island of St. Thomas with fond memories no other can share who did not have this childhood experience. Weather providing, I swim every day for 1-1/2 hour with swim gear. I am so saddened by what I see below. I have tried every way possible to bring awareness to this dire situation; no one cares, especially the local government.
Years ago I was a public speaker for Heal The Bay, Santa Monica CA. I understand the importance of your project. I understand why Mother Nature fights back.
I am ready to get to work.
