Thank you for pointing this out! The general coastine of California measures 840 miles. However, the shoreline measurement used in the blog includes the tidal shoreline, which measures offshore islands, sounds, bays, rivers, and creeks, adding up to a total of 3,427 miles. If you'd like to know more about this measurement, please view the NOAA Shoreline Website.
